Chelmsford going red?
Is our town trending more conservative?
There's an interesting analysis on Blue Mass Group:
http://bluemassgroup.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=5274
You can download a spreadsheet from there.
In a nutshell, they looked at the vote percentages of Healy/Patrick and
compared them to Bush/Kerry 04, compared to the statewide average
(that's the key part).
Healy's percentage vote in Chelmsford was 10.6% better than her state average, Deval's was 10.8% lower.
Bush's percentage vote in Chelmsford was 9.3% better than his state average, Kerry's was 9.4% lower.
...which basically confirms Chelmsford is a more red town than the rest of the state.
When you subtract the Bush/Kerry 04 numbers from the last election, you
get 1.4% for Healy. In other words, Chelmsford was 1.4% more red in
this election than it was in the 04 election.
Then consider the votes the extremist Martinez drew against Fargo. 45% to 49%... How could it have even been that close?
When you consider our effort against the Healy effort... wow. Is
Chelmsford really turning deeply red, and we're just slowing it down?
