Chelmsford's reps turn down pay raise

By state law, the salaries of Massachusetts legislators are automatically adjusted every other year based on the change in the state's median income. The state's median income rose by approximately 5.5% over the last two years, but in light of the fiscal difficulties the Commonwealth is facing, all four of Chelmsford's representatives announced they would turn down their raise or donate it to charity.

All four of Chelmsford's state representatives turned down their automatic pay raise, either refusing it completely or promising to donate the additional money to charity.  A Lowell Sun article summarizing the responses from the area reps can be found here.

Jim Arciero (representing Chelmsford precincts 3, 5, and 7) said he would be turning down the raise.

Cory Akins (representing Chelmsford precincts 1 and 9) said she would accept the raise but would donate the money to charity.

Tom Golden (representing Chelmsford precincts 2, 6, and 8) and David Nangle (representing Chelmsford precinct 4) said they would either turn down the raise or donate it to a charity.
